Ziggy Green: A David Bowie-Inspired Restaurant That’ll Leave You Speechless
Tucked away just off Regent Street, Ziggy Green is a David Bowie–inspired restaurant and bar serving Australian-focused food and themed cocktails. The buzzing venue bursts with character — its eccentric décor and eclectic artwork could rival any gallery. Downstairs, the bar doubles as an immersive art installation: a reimagining of the infamous Colony Room Club, a small but legendary members’ drinking den that ran from 1948 to 2008.
As soon as you walk in, you’re struck by the incredible collection of art paying homage to Bowie’s legacy. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Zilay, who gave us a tour of the vibrant space before seating us for a quick drink in the Colony Room. Returning upstairs, Zilay talked us through the menu with great detail and precision, explaining its Australian roots and its fusion of Asian and European influences.

For starters, we went for the fried chicken bites and tempura cauliflower — both delicious choices that set the tone for the meal. The chicken bites were tender with a satisfying crunch, perfectly paired with a tangy ranch dip. The cauliflower, crisp and light, put an Australian twist on a Japanese classic, elevated by a fiery jalapeño honey dip that packed serious flavour.

For mains, we tried Timmy’s Wagyu Cheeseburger & Fries and the BBQ Broccoli. The burger was juicy, soft, and bursting with flavour — clearly crafted with care. Topped with a crispy onion ring, it had that smoky, barbecue feel that instantly transports you to an Aussie summer cookout. The BBQ broccoli was a pleasant surprise — a simple yet flavourful side that complemented the burger beautifully.

Ziggy Green’s cocktails are another highlight. Each one is Bowie-themed, complete with a story behind its name. We especially recommend the Black Star and David Jones — both are strong yet sweet, perfect for anyone who enjoys a well-made drink.
Overall, Ziggy Green is an offbeat, art-filled gem for those who love great food served with flair. Whether you’re a Bowie fan, an art enthusiast, or just after somewhere unique for dinner, this spot delivers. Ideal for a lively Friday night with friends or a cheeky first date to impress.
