Vegan Restaurant Review: Power Plant Camden
Located on the corner of Chalk Farm Road, a stone’s throw away from Chalk Farm tube station, Power Plant Camden aims to prove that a plant-based culinary experience can be as exciting as any non-vegan-based restaurant.
Camden is generally known for its lively nightlife, and Power Plant as an outfit is well placed in the borough. It’s an excellent vegan restaurant that caters to all occasions including date nights, catch-ups with friends, or if you just want some quality vegan food. The wide-ranging menu makes sure that there is a dish to suit everyone.
The menu is broken down into small and large plates; we’d recommend one of each as the portion sizes as suitable.
For our starters, we opted for the Dumplings, which had Pan-fried Tofu coated with vegetable green gyoza. Our dumplings were accompanied by crispy chilli oil and tare soy sauce. Our second starter was Japanese Fried Cauliflower which featured Cauliflower florets kara-age, soy sauce, ginger, sake marinated, lime mayo, tonkatsu sauce and cauliflower leaves. With so many rich flavours, we would certainly recommend the fried cauliflower. Simply writing about them now has my mouth watering.
For our main courses, we had to, of course, featured one dish that included Redefine meat. The special was a grilled Redefine meat steak with chimichurri, pomegranate jus, sweet potato fries, and market green vegetables. I must say, the texture was convincingly meaty and the flavour was really quite delicious. My guest absolutely loved it and has been looking into ordering some to make at home. Power Plant has certainly made a name for itself, and the Redefine meat is a staple of that.
We also ordered the Birria Tacos which were gorgeous. The tacos have Oysters, shitake mushrooms, white onions, coriander, ancho chile and vegan queso. My only complaint was that I wish it came with more than three, but that is probably my fault as I should have ordered another round of them. They were so good.
